Fifteenth Global Studies Conference
National and Kapodistrian University of Athens - School of Philosophy
Athens, Greece
21-23 July 2022

Themes and Special Focus

Founded in 2008, the Global Studies Research Network is devoted to mapping and interpreting past and emerging trends and patterns in globalization. We aim to traverse a broad terrain, sometimes technically and other times socially oriented, sometimes theoretical and other times practical in their perspective, and sometimes reflecting dispassionate analysis while at other times suggesting interested strategies for action. Our aim is to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries.

The FIfteenth Global Studies Conference calls for research addressing the following annual themes and special focus:

  • 2022 Special Focus—What to Make of Crises: Emerging Methods, Principles, Actions
  • Theme 1: Networks of Economy and Trade
  • Theme 2: The Power of Institutions
  • Theme 3: Vectors of Society and Culture
  • Theme 4: Ecological Foundations

Benefits of Becoming a Presenter

We are offering a blended conference format with session types explicitly designed to make the most of both online and in-person social knowledge processes.

1 Present to a Global Audience

We pride ourselves on the diversity of our network members. Add your voice, in-person blended or online-only, by submitting a proposal today.

You do not need to commit either to an in-person blended or online-only presentation at the time of submission. You can present both ways, or change your mode of the presentation if your preferences change.

View our step-by-step guide to submitting a presentation proposal.

2 Robust Online Experience

For over 30 years, Common Ground has been invested in developing technologies that seek to break down barriers of access in scholarly communication. In each phase, we’ve built media platforms to support spaces for interdisciplinary dialogue, before such approaches were in vogue; connected international voices, when disciplines were too often isolated in national silos; and supported an agenda of access and equality, by offering pathways and opportunities for diverse voices.

And now we propose another kind of intervention -- a scholarly communication infrastructure for a blended future.

With this step-by-step guide, we walk you through the new phases pre/during/post-conference to ensure you have a productive blended conference.

3 Publishing Opportunities

We are working to change the way in which knowledge is produced, validated, and shared within member-based Research Networks.

The International Journal of Interdisciplinary Global Studies and Book Imprint offer pathways to transform your presentation into formal research objects. We also support a number of affordable Open Access pathways to allow maximum flexibility to support principles of open research, in a sustainable manner.

Participate with Audience Passes

Audience Passes are for those who want to benefit from the content, connect with presenters, and join the discussion -- in-person blended and online only. You'll gain access to all headline presentations: welcome addresses, plenary addresses, and curated thematic content -- either live or from any place and in your own time. And you'll be able to participate in innovative blended formats -- Talking Circles, Garden Conversations -- using the best of in-person and online capacities, and on a human scale.

Important Dates

We welcome the submission of proposals at any time of the year. All proposals will be reviewed within two to four weeks of submission.

You do not need to commit to either an In-Person Blended or Online Only presentation format at the time of submission. You can present both ways if you register In-Person Blended or change your mode of the presentation if your preferences change.
