Ways of Speaking - Going Virtual

As a Research Network, we are seeking your continued participation to keep a dialogue alive—speculative, hopeful, and urgent. We want to offer a sense of normalcy, hope, and a way to connect in these testing times. Our working principle is that research and professional work must continue. In this light, we have decided to continue as a virtual-only event. We are trying to offer members the best experience with the tools we have in the CGScholar Learning Community page combined with other available digital communication tools. Please keep in mind this is a highly experimental moment. We hope you will watch, comment, and participate.

Virtual Paper Presentations

Virtual Paper Presentations are the digital content for new and current "In-Person" Proposal and Registration types.

All those who were planning on attending "In-Person" can still register "In-Person." You can also still submit and register as an “In-Person” delegate. In choosing this option you are given a 20 minute virtual presentation slot—"traditional" Virtual presentations can only submit a 5 minute Lightning Talk (see below). You will also receive a complimentary registration to the 2021 conference or any other Common Ground Research Network conference.

Virtual Paper presentations are grouped by general themes. Each presenter makes a formal twenty-minute presentation of their work to be shared with all Research Network members. Full papers based on the virtual paper can also be submitted for consideration in the journal. The presenter's formal, written paper will be available to participants if accepted to the journal.

Virtual Posters and Virtual Lightning Talk Sessions

Virtual Posters and Lightning Talks are the digital content for new and current "Virtual" Proposal and Registration types.

Virtual Lightning Talk

Lightning talks are five minute "flash" video presentations.* Authors present summaries or overviews of their work, describing the essential features (related to purpose, procedures, outcomes, or product). Authors are welcome to submit traditional "lecture style" videos or videos that use visual supports like PowerPoint. Final videos must be submitted at least 1 week prior to the conference start date. Videos are presented on the network YouTube channel and shared on CGScholar. Full papers based on the virtual lightning talk can also be submitted for consideration in the journal.

* Video length is dependent on registration and proposal type. Delegates with an accepted virtual lightning talk proposal and paid virtual registration may submit a video up to 5-minutes in length. Delegates with any other in-person registration are welcome to submit a video up to 20-minutes in length.

Virtual Poster

This format is ideal for presenting preliminary results of work in progress or for projects that lend themselves to visual displays and representations. Each poster should include a brief abstract of the purpose and procedures of the work. After acceptance, presenters are provided with a template and Virtual Posters are submitted as a PDF. Final posters must be submitted at least one month prior to the conference start date. Full papers based on the virtual poster can also be submitted for consideration in the journal.
