Twenty-ninth International Conference on Learning
University of Valencia
Valencia, Spain
13-15 July 2022

Themes and Special Focus

Founded in 1989, The Learner Research Network is brought together around a common concern for learning in all its sites, formal and informal, and at all levels, from early childhood, to schools, colleges and universities, and adult, community and workplace education. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. As a Research Network, we are defined by our scope and concerns and motivated to build strategies for action framed by our shared themes and tensions.

The Twenty-ninth International Conference on Learning calls for research addressing the following annual themes and special focus:

  • 2022 Special Focus: Intercultural Learning in Plurilingual Contexts
  • Theme 1: Pedagogy and Curriculum
  • Theme 2: Assessment and Evaluation
  • Theme 3: Educational Organization and Leadership
  • Theme 4: Early Childhood Learning
  • Theme 5: Learning in Higher Education
  • Theme 6: Adult, Community, and Professional Learning
  • Theme 7: Learner Diversity and Identities
  • Theme 8: Technologies in Learning
  • Theme 9: Literacies Learning
  • Theme 10: Science, Mathematics, and Technology Learning

Benefits of Becoming a Presenter

We are offering a blended conference format with session types explicitly designed to make the most of both online and in-person social knowledge processes.

1 Present to a Global Audience

We pride ourselves on the diversity of our network members. Add your voice, in-person blended or online-only, by submitting a proposal today.

You do not need to commit either to an in-person blended or online-only presentation at the time of submission. You can present both ways, or change your mode of the presentation if your preferences change.

View our Step-by-Step Guide to submitting a presentation proposal.

2 Robust Online Experience

For over 30 years, Common Ground has been invested in developing technologies that seek to break down barriers of access in scholarly communication. In each phase, we’ve built media platforms to support spaces for interdisciplinary dialogue, before such approaches were in vogue; connected international voices, when disciplines were too often isolated in national silos; and supported an agenda of access and equality, by offering pathways and opportunities for diverse voices.

And now we propose another kind of intervention -- a scholarly communication infrastructure for a blended future.

With this step-by-step guide, we walk you through the new phases pre/during/post-conference to ensure you have a productive blended conference.

3 Publishing Opportunities

We are working to change the way in which knowledge is produced, validated, and shared within member-based Research Networks.

The Learner Journal Collection and Book Imprint offer pathways to transform your presentation into formal research objects. We also support a number of affordable Open Access pathways to allow maximum flexibility to support principles of open research, in a sustainable manner.
