Online student access codes are allowing many college students to bypass textbooks when obtaining their tests, quizzes, study materials and more.
Each online access code is sold to a specific participating student, allowing the student access to tests and other crucial items for a specific course at a college or university. Many college and university professors are requiring their students to purchase access codes, rather than depend on physical textbooks.
But unlike textbooks and even students' notes, the access codes can't be shared or re-sold by the student. Once a student purchases a code, he or she is then required to log onto a specific website, create an account and acquire the necessary tests and materials for the class, said Ethan Senack, a higher education advocate for the Washington, D.C.-based United States Public Interest Research Group.
