Organization Studies Book Series Curation

Dr. Jonathan H. Westover is pleased to announce a highly anticipated new book series with Common Ground’s Organization Studies book imprint – “Organizational Ethics, Sustainability, and Social Impact.” The Organization Studies Book Imprint aims to set new standards in participatory knowledge creation and scholarly publication. Dr. Westover welcomes book chapter proposals or full book proposals that fall into one of the following categories:

  • Individually or jointly authored books.
  • Edited collections addressing a clear theme or collections consisting of newly written chapters or articles previously published in Organization Studies journals.
  • Re-issued or out-of-copyright classics with new introductions.
  • PhD dissertations or other theses, rewritten to conform more closely to the genre "book."

Book proposals and original chapters are desired that address the following topic areas and questions (closely related topics and questions will also be carefully considered)...


Organizational Ethics:

  • Why is there an organizational and business ethics imperative?
  • What are key ethical theories that need to be considered within an organizational and business context?
  • What role does ethical organizational culture, professional codes of ethics, and corporate social responsibility play in ethical organizational and business practices?
  • What are key considerations for ethical organizational leadership?
  • What are the future directions in organizational and business ethics?
  • Why is it necessary to provide greater ethics training to business students and organizational leaders?
  • What are some of the key principles and considerations in providing ethics training to business students and organizational leaders?
  • What are the models and practices for effectively teaching organizational and business ethics?
  • What are some examples of organizational and business ethics application?

Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability:

  • What is CSR and what are its benefits and limitations?
  • What role do effective organizational systems, executives, and employees play in effective CSR efforts?
  • What role can CSR play in sustainable economic development efforts around the globe?
  • What role can CSR play in environmental sustainability efforts around the globe?
  • What is next for the CSR movement?

Social Entrepreneurship and Microfinance:

  • What is social entrepreneurship and what are its benefits and limitations?
  • How might we best approach social entrepreneurship in the age of globalization?
  • What is microfinance and what are its benefits and limitations?
  • How can we best teach social entrepreneurship and microfinance principles in the university setting?
  • What are some examples of social entrepreneurship and microfinance programs that have been implemented in various regions around the world?

How to Submit

Chapter Proposal Submission: For a complete chapter proposal, please include an abstract, your complete chapter if possible, and a copy of your CV.

Book Proposal Submission: To begin the process for a full book proposal, please submit a sample chapter or completed manuscript as well as the following: a brief description of the intended audience, a summary of the broader significance of the work, relevant metadata (title, authors/editors, back-cover blurb, table of contents, bio-notes) and any marketing or promotional ideas you have. Please also send a copy of your CV.

Submission deadline: The deadline for chapter submissions is January 1, 2016. There is no deadline for book proposal submissions.
