Dr. Özlem ÖZGÜR earned her Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in Gerontology Department at Akdeniz University between 2012 and 2025. Since 2020, she has been serving as a research assistant in the Department of Gerontology at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Akdeniz University. Her academic interests include aging, active aging, intergenerational relationships, education in later life, rural aging, and applied gerontology.
Dr. Özgür has played key roles in pioneering initiatives aimed at developing applied gerontological services, enhancing the quality of life for older adults, and promoting active aging. Prior to her academic career, she worked at the Active Aging Center of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality between 2019 and 2020.
In addition to her academic responsibilities, she has volunteered as a coordinator for several significant projects, including the 60+ Refreshment University (a Third Age University model), Parkinson’s School, and the İbradı NYD Gerontology Center (a rural day-care center). Dr. Özgür has been actively involved in the development and dissemination of applied gerontology service models in Türkiye, consistently adopting a participatory approach that integrates the experiences and perspectives of older individuals into her work. She has also presented her research at numerous national and international conferences.
