Busisiwe Nkala-Dlamini

Dr Busisiwe Nkala-Dlamini is the Senior lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand’s Department of Social Work.

She is involved in research on teenage and adolescence (boys and girls) research and program development, which includes HIV management, sexual and reproductive health services, socio-behavioural research, parental involvement in teenagers’ sexual and reproductive health rights issues, teenage pregnancy prevention and management, and historical and socio-cultural factors’ contribution to teenager sexual and reproductive health problems including services and families. She is currently involved in international collaborative interdisciplinary research projects investigating teenage boys’ exposure and involvement in gender-based violence. She has been involved in a number of HIV prevention studies, from vaccines to microbicides, with expertise in the effective establishment of community engagements in new research sites.

She holds a PhD in Development Studies, from the University of the Witwatersrand,

Master of Health Science in Bioethics from the University of Toronto,

Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from the University of the Witwatersrand,

Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery,

Recipient of Fogarty International Scholarship, NRF Sabbatical Grant, Faculty of Humanities’ Research Promotion Grant and Female Academic Leaders Fellowship Grant.
