Pre-Conference Walking Tour
The International Conference on Design Principles & Practices is pleased to offer the following walking tour.
The pre-conference walking tour offers an engaging introduction to Dublin's rich history, culture, and architecture, with the route adapted to the interests of the group and the pace of the day.
We are likely to begin at Dublin Castle, where for more than 700 years the administration of British rule in Ireland was centered. From there, we make our way into the city's medieval heart, visiting Christ Church Cathedral and the surrounding Medieval Quarter, including the site of the former Viking settlement at Wood Quay, where Dublin's story first began over a thousand years ago.
Continuing through the city, we explore the vibrant streets of Temple Bar before crossing the iconic Ha'penny Bridge, Dublin's first pedestrian bridge over the River Liffey and one of the city's most recognizable landmarks.
The tour also includes Trinity College and College Green, home to Ireland's oldest university, founded in 1592, and a place that has played a central role in the country's intellectual, cultural, and political history.
Depending on the group's interests and available time, we may also stroll along Grafton Street and through St Stephen's Green, providing a delightful contrast between Dublin's bustling shopping district and one of its most beautiful public parks.
As every tour is private and flexible, our guide may also incorporate additional landmarks such as O'Connell Street and the historic General Post Office (GPO), Merrion Square, the National Gallery of Ireland, or the National Museum of Archaeology, allowing the experience to unfold naturally throughout the day.
For those wishing to delve more deeply into Dublin's history and character, the four-hour and five-hour tours provide a more relaxed pace, allowing additional time to explore hidden corners, hear fascinating stories, and appreciate the city's many layers of history.
