Michael Mossman
Associate Professor Michael Mossman is the current Pro-Vice-Chancellor Indigenous (Academic) as part of the Office of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Strategy and Services). Michael's role delivers on the objectives of the One Sydney, Many People Strategy and its commitment to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems across the university.
He holds a degree in architecture from the University of Canberra and a Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture from the School of Architecture, Design and Planning and the University of Sydney. He is a register architect who previous practiced in industry prior to joining the University of Sydney. He held the previous roles of lecturer and Associate Dean Indigenous portfolio at ADP where he led the strategic implementation of Indigenous initiatives across the school at local, national and international levels.
He is the founder and lead of the Indigenous Knowledge Place where his internationally-recognised role facilitates learning, research and external engagement relating to the embedding of Country and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems in architecture and the built environment. He is also currently the co-chair of the Australian Institute of Architects First Nations Advisory Committee.
He retains a role as Chief Investigator for the Australian Research Project Discovery Indigenous project, Indigenising the Built Environment in Australia, where was awarded a Discovery Australia Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award Fellow (DAATSIA).
