Yoshiyuki Tatsumi

Yoshiyuki Tatsumi is an internationally recognized Japanese geologist known for his contributions to igneous petrology, subduction-zone magmatism, and Earth evolution, as well as a pioneer of “Gastronomic Geology.” He has held professorships at Kyoto University, the University of Tokyo, and Kobe University, and served in roles at JAMSTEC (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology). His research uses magma science to investigate Earth’s evolution and super-eruptions. He is a recipient of major honors, including the Bowen Award of the American Geophysical Union (AGU). He is widely known for bridging geology, water, and Japanese food culture through books, media, and regional innovation projects.
