National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

The idea of establishing a University in Greece emerged alongside with the Greek War of Independence, also known as the Greek Revolution. The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, officially founded in April 14th, 1837, is the first University not only of Greece but both the Balkan peninsula and the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Nowadays, the NKUA still offers important social services, producing academic and scientific personnel, in addition to the exercise of closer scientific tasks: through its members, it often participates in national and international committees, it carries out educational and other research projects, organizes and contributes to seminars for various social groups (often alongside its members’ full employment at the University). One of the most important services of The University of Athens concerns the promotion and care of national health.

Jagiellonian University

Institute of European Studies

The Jagiellonian University is the oldest higher education institution in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. It was founded on 12 May 1364 by the Polish king Casimir the Great.

Today, the Jagiellonian University comprises 16 Faculties, where nearly 4 thousand academic staff conduct research and provide education to over 40 thousand students, within the framework of more than 80 different fields of study. The eminent researchers and state-of-the-art infrastructure make the JU one of the leading Polish scientific institutions, collaborating with major academic centres from all over the world.

Some of the Jagiellonian University students and academics have been major historical figures, including world famous scholars, such as Nicolaus Copernicus or Karol Olszewski, as well as Karol Wojtyła, the future Pope John Paul II.

The university is located both in the historical centre of Krakow and on a modern campus. Jagiellonian has its own university museum (located in Collegium Maius, the oldest building of the university dating back to 13th century) as well as botanical garden and a vineyard.

The Institute of European Studies

The Institute of European Studies is part of the Faculty of International and Political Studies at JU. The Institute is famous for its interdisciplinary approach, combining the perspectives of anthropology, economy, cultural studies, political sciences, history, law and sociology. IES offers a study abroad programme for undergraduates, a range of BA, MA, post-graduate, 4-year doctoral, and vocational programmes taught in Polish, English and French. IES is also a research Institute and participates in research networks and international consortia.

University of Granada

The University of Granada, founded in 1531, continues a long teaching tradition, the roots of which can be traced back to the madrasahs of the last Nasrid Kingdom. The university is a vibrant presence in the city of Granada, benefiting from the distinctive beauty of its environment and a privileged geographical location due to its proximity to the Sierra Nevada, and the Mediterranean coast, with several major tourist sites, including Motril, Almuñécar and Salobreña nearby.

Over 60,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students study at the university, with another 20,000 students taking additional courses, language courses, summer courses, etc. The university employs 3,650 lecturers and over 2,000 administration, technical and maintenance staff. At present, courses for 75 different qualifications are taught in 28 teaching centers. The courses are taught across 116 departments, and the Postgraduate School offers 68 master's courses, 116 doctorate programs, and 113 additional courses.

The commitment to high-quality research has placed the University of Granada in a prominent position in terms of national rankings. The financing of 346 research groups illustrates this commitment. Through the Spanish Research Program, as well as other national programs and organizations, the university supports 165 research projects, and the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Business has provided financial support to 78 Projects of Excellence.

From modest beginnings as a small medical school in 1905, NUS has grown and transformed over the course of a century. The institution celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2015 and is now a highly ranked global university widely recognized for its excellence in education, research and enterprise. The Department of Political Science was established in 1961 and is now the leading department of its kind in Asia. The Global Studies program, created in 2012, is an international center for teaching and research in this rapidly growing field.
