Asier Santas Torres

Architect from the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra (1997) and Second National Prize for University Graduation. In 2003, he obtained the title of Doctor Architect with Cum Laude distinction for his research on Urbanism and Housing in Bilbao. He received the accreditation of Associate Professor from ANECA in 2014 and a six-year research recognition in 2017. From 1998 to 2007, he taught Urban Design and Urban Planning I at ETSAUN and is currently part of its Department of Theory, Projects, and Urbanism, where he teaches the fifth-year Project Workshop. Since 2017, he has been responsible for the Urban Project Management mention in the Architecture degree and has directed the CityLab Bilbao project since 2019. He has participated in international conferences and conducted research for the Basque Government, Madrid City Council, and Docomomo Ibérico. He curated the exhibition “Housing the Basque Country 1981-2018” organized by the Basque Government and its catalog published by the Arquia Foundation.

In 2003, he founded Suárez Santas Arquitectos with Luis Suárez, focusing on architectural and urban projects, research, and teaching. They have won over twenty awards in national and international competitions, including the Arte Sacro Business Park in Seville, the Soria Auditorium, the Principality of Asturias Building in Gijón, and 112 social housing units in Guadalajara. He has published the book “Urbanism and Housing in Bilbao” and contributed to various other works.
