We invite you to join us for the Twenty-Second International Conference on Technology, Knowledge & Society, the annual meeting of the Technology, Knowledge & Society Research Network, taking place 16–17 April 2026 in Rhodes, Greece and online, in partnership with the University of the Aegean. This year’s convening is held alongside the annual meeting of the e-Learning & Innovative Pedagogies Research Network, reflecting shared interests in digital transformation, human-centered AI, and the evolving relationships among technology, knowledge, and learning. The Network brings together educators, researchers, technologists, designers, policymakers, and community innovators examining how emerging technologies shape knowledge practices, social organization, communication, and institutional life.
In 2026, our special focus “Human-Centered AI Transformations” invites critical reflection on the long arc of technological change—from early utopian hopes for democratized knowledge and digital commons to contemporary realities shaped by AI, big data, automation, and platform infrastructures. We ask how digital tools have fulfilled or fallen short of their promise to broaden participation, enhance equity, and cultivate new forms of civic and educational engagement. The focus emphasizes AI not as an autonomous replacement for human judgment but as a collaborative partner capable of augmenting meaning-making, teaching, learning, and community building.
We welcome proposals that explore how AI systems can be designed to respect local contexts, uphold ethical values, and foster inclusion; how digital infrastructures reconfigure norms and epistemologies in classrooms, workplaces, and public spaces; and how we might imagine technological futures that expand human potential rather than automate it away. Through interdisciplinary perspectives, the conference seeks pathways toward more equitable, sustainable, and human-attuned technological epochs.
Alongside this Special Focus, proposals are invited across the Network’s annual themes:
Technology & Human Usability; Technology & Change; Knowledge Economies; and The Social Impacts of Technology.
Knowledge Experience and Format
The conference is organised as a hybrid knowledge experience, integrating in-person and online participation through a unified scholarly environment. All accepted proposals become Presentation Pages in CGScholar Event (KX), where presenters share abstracts, media, and reflections and where delegates engage in discussion before, during, and after the conference.
A merged, cross-Network schedule interweaves in-person presentations, live online sessions, and asynchronous contributions, enabling delegates from both Research Networks to engage across shared themes and dialogues.
Presenters are invited to develop their work for possible publication in The International Journal of Technology, Knowledge, and Society, a cross-disciplinary forum exploring the social and technological dynamics of contemporary life, or in the Technology, Knowledge & Society Book Imprint, which publishes monographs and edited collections advancing these conversations. Both outlets offer traditional and Open Access publication pathways.
We welcome new and returning members to the Technology, Knowledge & Society Research Network. Purchasing a Presenter Pass automatically establishes or renews membership for the year, providing access to the Network’s online Knowledge Experience, where the full cycle of scholarly work—preparation, presentation, reflection, and publication—takes place. Members also access conference archives, journals, books, programs, and community-review spaces.
Membership is equally activated through our in-person gatherings, where delegates meet host partners, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to a community grounded in reciprocity and care.
We warmly invite you to submit a proposal and to join us—either in Rhodes or online—for this year’s annual meeting of the Technology, Knowledge & Society Research Network, held in conjunction with the e-Learning & Innovative Pedagogies Research Network. Together, we will explore how human-centered AI and emerging technologies reshape knowledge, learning, communication, and social organization.
Sincerely,
Dr. Chryssi Vitsilaki, Conference Chair, University of the Aegean, Greece
Dr. Marcus Breen, Research Network Chair, Boston University, United States of America
